Ex-politician’s claim against Georgia clears first hurdle

An ICSID tribunal has refused to summarily dismiss a US$150 million claim brought against Georgia by a former minister who obtained political asylum in the US, finding that the state’s objections raised “novel, difficult and complex” issues about his nationality and investments.

Nigerian businessman liable for fuel debts

The Commercial Court in London has ruled that a Nigerian businessman and his company are liable for around U$33 million in debts for fuel purchases and that their defences in related LCIA and DIAC arbitrations were “bound to fail”.
